How to become a police officer ?

Under article 115 of the Police Act (R.S.Q., c. P-13.1), to be hired as a police officer a person must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Canadian citizen (to get more information on this requirement, consult Citizenship and Immigration Canada's siteCe lien ouvre un site externe dans une nouvelle fenêtre.);
  • Be of good moral character;
  • Not have been found guilty, in any place, of an act or omission defined in the Criminal Code (Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, chapter C-46) as an offence, or of an offence referred to in section 183 of that Code under one of the Acts listed therein ;
    Paragraph 3 of Article 4 of the Training Plan Regulation of the École nationale de police du Québec is to the same effect as Paragraph 3 of Article 115 of the Police Act.
  • Hold a diploma awarded by the École nationale de police du Québec or meet the standards of equivalence established by by-law by the school (Admission guide (french)).
