Types of emergency situations

Violence and aggression

If you witness or are a victim of an act of violence or aggression: 

  1. Scream, make noise to try and destabilize the aggressor and to get the attention of passersby.
  2. Flee if possible.
  3. Call ENPQ Security.

Medical emergency

If a person’s life is in danger:

  1. Call ENPQ Security.
  2. Ask for the help of a first-aid attendant and find a first aid kit.
  3. Remain calm and stay with the person.

Suspicious envelope or package

If you notice a suspicious envelope or package:

  1. Do not handle the envelope or package.
  2. Do not use any cell phone or headset and do not pull the fire alarm.
  3. Move away from the envelope or package and call ENPQ Security.
  4. Follow the instructions of the security personnel.

Bomb threat

If you receive a bomb threat by phone:

  1. Write down the telephone number showing on the display.
  2. Do not end the call.
  3. Obtain as much information as you can (When is the bomb going to explode? Where is it? Why putting a bomb? What does it look like? What is your name? Where are you calling from?)
  4. Note as many identifying characteristics of the caller as possible (sex, age, accent, voice, speed of speaking, pronunciation, background sounds, etc.).
  5. Let the caller hang up first.

Gas leak

If you notice the typical rotten egg odour (Mercaptan):

  1. Do not pull the fire alarm.
  2. Do not turn on or off any lights or electrical appliances. What is on stays on and what is off stays off.
  3. Do not use the telephone or a cell phone. Alert other persons via word-of-mouth only.
  4. Evacuate the building through the nearest exit. Never use elevators.
  5. From a safe location, contact ENPQ Security.

Earthquake

If there is an earthquake:

  1. Keep clear of windows, mirrors, lighting fixtures and large objects that could fall over (bookcases).
  2. Take cover immediately under a sturdy table or desk and hold on to it; or drop down along a wall or a corridor and protect your head and neck with your arms.
  3. Evacuate the premises only if there is severe damage, fire or gas leak, or if the order to evacuate is given.
  4. Wait for instructions.
  5. Evacuate the premises ONLY:
    • If there is severe damage;
    • If there is a fire or a gas leak;
    • If the order to evacuate is given.

  • Other emergency situations can occur. In all cases,
